The Upsetter: The Life and Music of Lee Scratch Perry Film Trailer

"The Upsetter tells the fascinating story of Lee “Scratch” Perry, a visionary musician and artist from poor rural Jamaica who journeyed to the big city in the late 1950s with dreams of making it in the burgeoning record industry. Lee Perry burst on the scene with a brand new sound, inventing a genre of music that would come to be called reggae, while mentoring a young Bob Marley and gaining international recognition as a record producer and solo artist. The Upsetter charts 70 years in the life of Lee “Scratch” Perry in his own words through an exclusive interview given to American filmmakers Ethan Higbee and Adam Bhala Lough in Switzerland in 2006. It is equally a documentation of 30 years of Jamaican music and culture as it is a study of one of the most creative and inspiring human beings of all time. Nunca fui grande fã de Nate Dogg, homem que ficou mais conhecido pelas colaborações nas faixas de outros artistas (quase sempre fazendo o coro melífluo dos refrões) do que propriamente pelos seus álbuns.
Mas a verdade é que, goste-se ou não do estilo, Nate Dogg sempre se fez rodear de bons beats, com os quais desenhou baladas de RNB muito melodiosas e fáceis ao ouvido.
Com a morte de Nate Dogg, perde-se um dos últimos nomes históricos da primitiva West Coast do hip-hop norte-americano, a mesma que nos revelou Snoop Dogg, Ice-T, Dr. Dre ou Tupac.

Mini-entrevista com Theo Parrish, DJ e produtor de Detroit, cujo trabalho, dentro do espectro da música electrónica, se debruça essencialmente sobre o cruzamento da house music (a la Detroit, pois claro) - e de vertentes mais desalinhadas, como o chamado "tech house", por exemplo - com a música negra (soul, hip-hop, etc.).
Mas não só. Vejam bem o video... Este homem é um autêntico "cientista" de som... DOPE!



Theo Parrish foi capa da revista Wire de Março, onde dá uma entrevista muitíssimo interessante sobre a Música: a música enquanto Arte, enquanto forma de existir do homem. Foi através dela que cheguei ao conhecimento deste homem de Detroit. Se tiverem oportunidade, leiam essa entrevista (não está disponível on-line, infelizmente).

O Micróbrio do Samba é o nome do novo álbum de Adriana Calcanhoto, com lançamento previsto ainda para este mês. O álbum já tem um single lindíssimo a rodar por aí, de seu nome "Eu vivo a sorrir".
Adriana Calcanhoto virá apresentar o seu novo trabalho dias 6 e 7 Maio, em Lisboa (CCB), e dia 8 Maio, no Porto (Casa da Música).

Na sexta-feira à noite fui sair a um bar/discoteca no Porto e às tantas dei por mim na pista de dança, de olhos fechados, suadíssimo, a debitar a letra da "Falsos Amigos", dos Mind da Gap.

Dr. Dre, uma das lendas vivas do hip-hop mundial, prepara-se para voltar naquele que sera alegadamente o seu ultimo album - Detox, cujo lançamento tem sido sucessivamente adiado nos ultimos anos.
Pela amostra posta a circular (o single "Kush", cujo videoclip ate tive vergonha de o por aqui, por isso deixei-o quietinho la no youtube), longe vao os tempos de The Chronic e 2001, albuns fundamentais em qualquer colecçao de hip hop. E que Dre nao so insuflou a sua massa muscular como ate ja canta com gente como Akon... e ja disse tudo.
Tudo bem que nao e novidade que Dre ja anda a produzir hip-hop foleiro q.b. ("bang-pop-bitchie") para uma serie de gente ha uns bons anos, mas e sempre custoso ver o proprio a lançar um album nessa linha.

O single "I Need a Doctor" augura, e certo, algo de mais positivo, embora comece a tornar-se urgente que alguem diga ao Eminem que ele soa sempre da mesma forma (aquele tom invariavelmente "guerreiro" e neurotico) quer a musica seja com o Dre, quer seja com a... Rihanna. Alguma coisa esta mal, digo eu.

Mas bem, podemos sempre pensar que sao apenas dois singles e que o resto do album sera ao estilo daquilo que fez dele um dos nomes maiores do hip-hop, por quem tenho um respeito muito grande:















Nao coloco mais faixas, caso contrario o blog fica muito pesado. Okaaaay, sim, falta uma...:
