Hydeout Productions 1st Collection

... assim se chama o disco, do japonês Nujabes (falecido este ano), que vou começar a ouvir em breve.
Mas só por esta capa já o levo em boa conta... Lindíssima.

Samurai Champloo

fonte: Wikipedia

Samurai Champloo (サムライチャンプルー, Samurai Chanpurū) is a Japanese animated television series consisting of twenty-six episodes.
The series is a cross-genre work of media, blending the action and samurai genres with elements of slapstick comedy. It is also a period piece, taking place during Japan's Edo period. The series is interwoven with revisionist historical facts and anachronistic elements of mise-en-scene, dialogue and soundtrack. The series' most frequent anachronism is its use of elements of hip hop culture, particularly Hip hop music and the music it has influenced, break dancing, turntablism, hip hop slang, and graffiti. The show also contains anachronistic elements from the punk subculture and modernism, but less prominently. It is one of the first anime TV shows based on hip-hop (Afro Samurai is the other, having been released in 2007).

Isto é de loucos... vejam por vocês mesmos:

"Nuff Teef" (álbum Is Ellipsis), dos (para mim desconhecidos) Psyche Origami. É como ouvir os De La Soul... mas em 2000!

Dancing has long been forbidden for its subversive effects on the residents and its tendency to lead to illegal magical practices.

e por falar na Macy Gray

Uma das minhas preferidas: "Do Something" - do seu óptimo disco de estreia On How Life Is, 1999. E provavelmente o seu melhor até hoje.

easy listening (20): FatMacy Slim

É o vigésimo easy listening e, em jeito de modesto festejo, não podia tocar outra coisa que não na linha do que venho predominantemente a seguir neste meu pequeno entretém pessoal: funky, claro.

"Love Life", Fatboy Slim com Macy Gray.

"The Hip-Hop issue"

"Truth be told, the music was better then. It was infused with a counsciousness and a sense of urgency that's no longer there. We were hungry, and you can hear it. Comparatively, in 2010, rappers are lazy. I mean, hell, we're all lazy. The fight is gone, even the term gangsta rap is a misnomer now. Guys like Ice Cube and Ice-T were stoytellers who had a point to make. What do rappers who call themselves gangsta today really have to say? Now the music is just a much part of the problem, not the solution. Party and bullshit. At one point, the music was revolutionary and had something to say. It was trying to make a change and was fighting for somthing. It believed in something. There was a time when the music reflected what went on in our lives. If it was the hood CNN, it's now the hood TMZ".

Andre Torres, no editorial da Wax Poetics #41, Maio/Junho 2010, "The Hip-Hop issue". Na capa KRS-One, na contracapa os EPMD.E ainda Souls of Mischief, Ice-T, Ice Cube ... Um luxo!

R.I.P. RAMMELLZEE aka The Crazy Genius

Rest In Power Rammellzee, 1960-2010. Shotgun in one hand, mic in the other – there will never be another.

“I DON’T LIKE MUSIC. I JUST DO IT BECAUSE IT’S ANOTHER SCULPTURE TO ME. SOLID ROCK, I BREAK THINGS OFF, THE SOUND VIBRATES THE SCULPTURE & THEREFORE, I STAND THERE IN THE DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF ALPHAS BET.Rammellzee

"Someone told me, I don’t know if it’s true, that Rammellzee is the originator of the use of the word “word”, in hip hop slang. That he started that way back, and would answer people by just saying “word.” And that that spread from Rammellzee, I don’t know if that’s true or myth, but if you have to imagine an origin, the idea of reducing everything to the word “word” is so Rammellzee-like."
Jim Jarmusch

“That was a style that Rammellzee had used first. [aka the ‘Gangsta Duck’ style] His style was more effect-driven, while I just held my nose and went “Yo MCs!” But I’d taken the idea of changing my voice from Rammellzee. He’s still underrated, he was the personal rapper for Rock Steady Crew back in the day. [rhymes “Beat Bop” pretty much in its entirety] But that’s where I derived that style that later Muggs had B-Real ask me if B could use, and that’s what turned into the style that B-Real made famous in Cypress Hill. We used to study Cold Crush Brothers, Sugarhill Gang, Funky Four Plus One, and they were structured. But Rammellzee, it was like one long rap! That’s where we got that womp-womp-womp for “River Cubano” and where Muggs got that “Cy-cypress hill…” from the record, it was all Rammellzee, that’s how much of an impact his work had on us.” - Mellow Man Ace

"I hung out with Rammell only once, in the mid-nineties. He drank coffee with Kahlua and told me the FBI had bugged his house. He said he had already “done” the internet so why would he look at “the new version”?Mellow Man Ace - “Rhyme Fighter” (Capitol, 1989)

“He was all dressed up in his white leather trench coat with his bug ski goggles on and leaning against a two-tone brown and tan stretch limousine. He opened the door for me. I said, ‘Where are we going?’ He said, in his best sinister Donald Duck voice, ‘Wherever you want to go as long as I can buy you a pair of shoes there. That’s where we are going my little chicakdee ha ha ha ha."
